Choosing your wetsuit boots
Wetsuit boots come down to three choices: the toe style, the thickness and how you want them to fasten. Here’s how each one works.
Round toe or split toe boots?
Round toe boots keep your toes together in one space, which is the classic shape and a good all-rounder. Split toe boots separate the big toe from the rest, so many surfers like them for the extra feel of the board underfoot. Some models come in both styles, including the Alder Future 6mm and the C-Skins Session in 5mm and 7mm, so you can compare like for like.
Neoprene socks
If you want something slimmer than a full boot, take a look at the neoprene socks, such as the Alder Burn SOX and Impact SOX. They’re a lighter option for when you want some extra cover for your feet.
What thickness of wetsuit boots do I need?
Our boots run from 2mm to 7mm. As a rule, thinner boots such as the Alder 2mm Rock Runner suit milder water, and thicker boots suit the coldest days. 5mm is the most common thickness on this page, with plenty of choice at 3mm, 6mm and 7mm too. If you’re not sure, match your boots to your wetsuit. A 5mm boot is a sensible partner for a winter wetsuit.
Wetsuit boots with a zip
Zip boots are easier to get on and off, especially when your feet are cold and wet. The Alder Edge Zip Boot and the C-Skins Legend 5mm Zip are both on this page.
Wetsuit boots by brand
Shop Alder for the biggest choice on this page, including the Edge, Future, Drift and Rock Runner. C-Skins offers the Session, Wired and Legend boots, O’Neill has the Heat and Hyperfreak Fire, and Rip Curl has the Flashbomb, Omega and Rubber Soul Plus.
Wetsuit boots for women, men and juniors
Our boots come in sizes from S to 3XL, and we also stock junior boots for boys and girls. If you’re looking for women’s wetsuit boots, use the size filter on this page to find your fit, and check our sizing charts before you order. Boots should feel snug without squeezing your toes, because a good fit keeps your feet warmer and the boot comfortable.
Pairing your boots with a wetsuit
Boots work best as part of a full winter set up. If you’re picking a wetsuit and boots together, browse our men’s winter wetsuits, women’s winter wetsuits and kids’ winter wetsuits, or see everything in all wetsuits. For the coldest days, add wetsuit gloves and wetsuit hoods, or layer up with a thermal rash vest.
Looking after your wetsuit boots
Rinse your boots with fresh water after each session and dry them away from direct heat. Our wetsuit hangers, changing mats and care products will help, and a wet and dry bag keeps your wet kit separate on the way home.
